With a little bit of effort and knowledge, anyone can build a hydroponic system using parts that can be purchased at a reasonable cost, or often at no cost at all.
Three rules to always remember are:
1. If you are using second hand material, be certain that it did not contain any harmful chemicals. Any used container that held food products is usually safe.
2. Never allow any metal other than stainless steel to come in contact with the nutriant.
3. Hydroponic nutrient is an excellent conductor of electricity, therefor any electrical device placed in the nutrient should be designed for salt water use.
